In her practice, Sevda Semer explores how the body remembers and moves with specific emotions and thoughts. Her paintings, as well as her investigations into written text, diaries and, more recently, textile and even sound, flirt with the experience of the self as (an)other. Her works pushes to delve further into feelings and in this she offers herself and the audience to open a whole unfamiliar inner space. Sevda invites the viewers to look again inside and outside of their bodies to make room for encountering alterity. For the show, evoking the way she produces her pieces in the studio, I invented her to experiment with display: while Recognizing your words as something else (2018) is installed on a wall, a different circulation is generated around Have you been here before, body?, I (2018) presented closer to the ground.
